Hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) is a destructive invasive insect that has already been detected on hemlock trees in southern Vermont. Join FPR Forest Health Protection Forester, Jim Esden; Vermont Land Trust Forester, Caitlin Cusack; and Vermont Urban and Community Forest Program Forest Pest Education Coordinator, Ginger Nickerson, for this hands-on workshop to practice monitoring for HWA in your community.

You will learn:

• Biology and life cycle of HWA
• How to monitor for HWA and identify HWA-infested hemlocks
• What you can do to detect and slow the spread of this insect pest!

The second half of the workshop will be in the field. Please dress appropriately for outdoor activity in cold weather, and bring a water bottle and snack. Binoculars, a clipboard, and snowshoes are optional but helpful if you have them.

This event is eligible for CFE credits from the Society of American Foresters and has been assigned 1.5 Category 1 credits.
